Our achievements:
Acquisition
It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) to formulate development plans for the country and provide reliable and up-to-date information for administrative activities. The BBS has been responsible for regularly collecting, compiling and publishing various information for the use of planners, public and private research institutes, international organizations and the public engaged in the formulation of national and local plans. Recently, the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and the Statistics Act 2013 have been formulated. As a result, the scope of work of BBS has expanded. In view of this, the organizational structure of BBS has been redefined and work is underway to strengthen and rationalize it. Under Section 7 of the Statistics Act 2013, surveys have been completed in various census and socio-economic and demographic fields.
Among the updated reports already published are National Accounts Statistics Report 2017-18, Agricultural Statistics Yearbook-2016, Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2017, Labor Force Survey Bangladesh 2016-2017, Bangladesh Strategic Plan on Agriculture and Rural Statistics (2016-2030), Urban areas in Bangladesh, Report on the Opinion Survey on Power Supply 2016-2017 \ 45 Years of Agriculture Statistics on Major Crops (Aus, Aman, Boro, Jute and Wheat), Preliminary Report on Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2016 (New), Analytical Report on Methodologies of Crops Estimation & Forecast and Private Stock of Food Grain Survey 2016-2017, An assessment on Coverage of Basic Social Services in Bangladesh (ECBSS 1st round), Report on CWS 2016, Expatriate Income Investment Survey 2016, Investment from Remittance (SIR) ) 2016, Bangladesh Disaster-related Statistics-2015 is one of them.
In addition, the production accounts of 128 crops are being collected from the field level on an annual basis and are being estimated at the head office of BBS. Land and irrigation statistics are being collected and prepared from the field stage. Each month price and wage statistics are collected from the field level and sent to the head office in Dhaka. Using this information, consumer price index and price inflation are calculated and published.
The work of integrated agricultural census 2018 including fisheries and livestock sector has been completed and the field level work of agricultural sample census 2020 has also been completed.
Under the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) project, Vital Statistics of Bangladesh is regularly published on the basis of data collected through 11 types of schedules from 2,012 sample areas selected across the country.
In addition, regular publications of BBSA such as Statistics Pocket Book, Statistics Yearbook and Monthly Statistics Bulletin are published regularly.
In March-May 2013, the third economic census data collection activities were completed in Bangladesh. A total of 7 reports have been published under the census, out of which 01 National Report, 01 Administrative Report and 64 Zila Report. The BusinessRegister has undertaken activities under the Economic Census 2013 project. It will be used as the main framework for the formulation of economic statistics of the country. The business register will contain information on the name, address, legal structure, type of functions, number of manpower employed, annual average production, total assets, etc. of each organization.
The fifth census and household census of the country was held on 15-19 March 2011. Under this census 05 (five) national reports, 64 (sixty four) district reports and 64 community reports have been published. Besides, 14 (fourteen) monographs and 01 (one) population projection report have been prepared using the data of Census and Census 2011. Under this project, Redatam software and preliminary data of Census 2011 have been uploaded on the website of BBS through which users can prepare tables, graphs, charts etc. as per their demand.
The Upazila Statistics Office, Magura Sadar collects field level data of census and survey regularly as per the instructions of the head office in Dhaka and sends it to the appropriate authorities.
